Hey all here are your updates on the UK and Global Economies:
UK Economy
- Thames Water is £20bn in debt (are natural monopolies efficient?)
- Tens of Thousands of Britons will have their welfare payments cut by over 60% (Will this help the national debt? Or will it reduce consumption?)
- The Government has announced a plan to invest £600mn to train 60,000 new workers in the construction industry by 202 (improved occupational mobility of labour?)
Global Economy
- Nike's sales are at a 5-year low due to tariffs and low consumer confidence (impact of protectionism on firms)
- Debt service costs as a percentage of GDP for the 38 countries in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) climbed to 3.3 per cent in 2024
- There is now more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than at any point in the past 800,000 years
