BuonMenu: choose the aspect ratio for your menu photos

Hi there,

We've just released a new BuonMenu feature designed to give you more control over how your photos look in your digital menu.

You can now choose between three image aspect ratios for your menu pictures: the classic 2:1 wide, the new 4:3, and the new 1:1 square. Pick the one that fits your photos and your restaurant's style best.

More room for your photos

Until now, all images in your BuonMenu were displayed in 2:1 wide format. This works beautifully for many photos, but it isn't always the best fit, especially for pictures with a vertical subject like wine bottles, cocktails, tall plated dishes or portrait-style shots.

With the new setting, you can pick the format that works best for you:

  • 2:1 (wide) – the classic format, great for landscape photos and broad table shots. This is still the default for existing restaurants.
  • 4:3 (standard) – a balanced, slightly taller format that works well for most food photography and reduces cropping on the top and bottom of your photos.
  • 1:1 (square) – a clean, social-media-friendly format with plenty of vertical space, ideal for bottles, glasses, tall plates and other vertical subjects.

Why it's useful

The new aspect ratio options help you present your menu the way you want:

  • avoid excessive cropping – keep more of your photo visible, especially for tall subjects like wine bottles or cocktails
  • match your photo source – use the format that fits the photos you already have, without having to recompose or re-shoot them
  • align with your style – choose the look that best matches your restaurant's visual identity
  • showcase your dishes at their best – a well-proportioned image makes every plate look more appetizing

How to change the aspect ratio

You can update the setting in just a few clicks:

  1. log in to BuonMenu
  2. open your restaurant dashboard
  3. open a menu by clicking on it
  4. Click Edit
  5. find the Aspect ratio setting
  6. choose 2:14:3 or 1:1
  7. save your changes

Your public menu will be updated immediately. The setting applies to all the images in your menu, so you get a consistent look across every dish, drink and category.

You can use different settings for different menus: for example, you can use 2:1 or 4:3 for your food menu, while you can set 1:1 for wine menu. We recommend trying different sizes and see what works best for your photos.

We hope this new feature helps you make your menu even more beautiful.
